Congratulations to Richard Mitcham 2011 Formula Jedi Champion,
and Nathan Wright Club Class Champion.
The New International track at Silverstone was the venue
for the final rounds of the season, and with the championship
still undecided there was still a lot to play for.
Stu Abbott took a brilliant win in Race
1 after getting past pole man Dan Cook on the first lap from
second on the grid. Despite staying out front for almost
the entire race, Abbott was under constant pressure from
James Fletcher who at the chequered flag had to settle for
second. After suffering from engine failure on the first
lap of qualifying and not setting a time, championship leader
Richard Mitcham had it all to do after having to start from
the back of the grid. However a great drive through the field
resulted in third place just behind Fletcher and within a
second of the lead. Mathew Bett had another strong drive
to finish fourth ahead of Cook, who dropped down the order
with an engine misfire. Barry Armstrong rounded out the top
six.
Cook had a great start in Race 2 getting
the jump on pole sitter Abbott and this time keeping him
behind him, along with Fletcher and 2010 champion Andrew
Dunn. As Fletcher made his way into second Cook seemed to
have a solid lead until running wide onto the pit straight
and damaging his suspension, which then resulted in him losing
a wheel. A lap later and Abbott was also forced out due to
engine problems, which left Fletcher and Dunn to battle it
out at the front. Dunn though could not quite do enough as
Fletcher took the final win of the season by just over a
second, with Bett taking the final step on the podium. After
having to start again from the back of the grid Mitcham put
in another fine drive to finish fourth and beat Fletcher
to the title. Dan Clowes and Armstrong finished fifth and
sixth respectively.
Rob Sayell was the man to beat in Race 1 ahead of a strong
Club Class field. The former club champion took the win over
newcomers Will Picken and Mike fryatt.
After a non finish in the first race, new Club Class Champion
Nathan Wright made up for it with a win in the second, finishing
a respectable eighth overall. Sayell had to be content with
finishing second again in front of Picken.
